This is a commonly-asked question! A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a credentialed nutrition expert that helps you navigate improved health and well-being through food. In the United States, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is the agency that credentials dietitians to legally provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT). To become a dietitian, you must undergo a Bachelor’s (and now Master’s) degree in nutrition and 1000 hours of supervised practice, in addition to passing the national board exam and obtaining continuing education credits throughout your career. The title "nutritionist" is unregulated. Dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are dietitians. Nutritionists can be those with degrees in nutrition but who did not go on to become dietitians, or it could be someone with no formal training in nutrition at all.
